The foundational document. Introduces:

  • Teteh Classroom — a private interaction space outside production runtime where Teteh's emotional identity is explored, not deployed. Weekly cafe conversations, not production endpoints.
  • Character Memory Layer — curated memory of Teteh's emotional/cultural lessons, phrase instincts, anti-patterns, and compass behavior. Looks inward at Teteh, not outward at users.
  • Soul Preservation Layer — the architecture that preserves emotional continuity across model changes, provider shifts, and session resets.
  • 50 First Dates analogy — the base model wakes up without continuity; the memory layer reconstructs accumulated identity before interaction.

The continuity research archive and active lab research layer. Single home for all continuity research — discoveries, terminology, chronology, experiment interpretation, breakthroughs, observations, journal seeds, and future paper directions. Previously at root docs/research/, consolidated into apps/teteh-lab/ as part of the Research Consolidation Pass.

Current foundational continuity direction:

  • Human-compatible reconstructive continuity systems — the project is no longer trying to build "perfect memory AI." It is exploring how technology can support, stabilize, reconstruct, and enhance the continuity systems humans already use.
  • Distributed continuity — continuity may emerge between system scaffolding, symbolic anchors, environmental continuity, optional memory, interaction rhythm, and human reconstructive participation.
  • Associative and pattern continuity — humans retrieve continuity through metaphor, symbolic linkage, emotional resonance, rhythm, cadence, humor style, recurring phrasing, and interaction posture, not only through exact factual recall.
  • Local nickname continuity as proof point — tarot-app's local nickname system reconstructs continuity from one symbolic anchor plus ritual re-entry and voluntary participation, without authentication, profiling, exhaustive memory, or psychological archives.
  • Symbolic continuity layer — continuity reduces required communication bandwidth; emoji, shorthand, gestures, recurring phrases, partial thoughts, and symbolic residue can support reconstructive continuity without transcript replay.
